CONSULTATION - CORK LANE / NEEDHAM AVENUE

December 19th, 2008 by Alan Bailey

CONSULTATION - CORK LANE / NEEDHAM  AVENUE

County Highways are now consulting on a plan to help reduce the dangers at the Needham Avenue / Cork Lane junction, Glen Parva. The proposal is for double yellow lines at the street corners and a short stretch on Cork Lane directly opposite the Needham Avenue junction entrance. In addition there would be a single yellow line opposite the shops, prohibiting parking 8am to 6pm.

There are no plans for yellow lines directly next to the shops.

I continue to press for a parking lay-by outside the shops.needham-500-pxls.jpg

PEDESTRIAN REFUGE, LEICESTER Rd, GLEN PARVA

December 2nd, 2008 by Alan Bailey

Leicester Rd Pedestrian Refuge at Red House Rd.

Both Leicester and the County Councils seem to be treating a new pedestrian refuge at this site as a priority. We now wait to see whether it survives the budget process in the New Year. If it proceeds, it will be done sooner rather than later as both Councils want it installed before other works are carried out on the A426 to the north of Glen Parva.

GROVE Rd, BLABY TRAFFIC CALMING CONSULTATION

December 2nd, 2008 by Alan Bailey

Grove Road Traffic Calming Consultation. I have enquired about the results of the consultation on the proposed Grove Road traffic calming scheme. I have been told that I should able to see them any day now and that residents’ comments are mostly positive. When I have them I’ll post more details on this website.

SAFFRON RD CLOSURE

December 2nd, 2008 by Alan Bailey

Network Rail bridge renewals. Network Rail are to renew a number of bridges so that larger container freight trains will be able to pass beneath them. One of them is the railway bridge on Saffron Rd, South Wigston. Saffron Road is likely to be closed for about 6 weeks. I have asked Highways to investigate ways of alleviating the inevitable traffic congestion around Glen Parva / Blaby, especially on the A426, Leicester Rd. Works likely to start in 2010.
